FAQs

I hope this answers some of your questions if you are considering visiting our church. I’d be honored if you are our guest. -- Pastor John

What should I wear?

At Normandale, you’ll see all styles of dress. A few men will wear suit and tie and some women will wear dresses. Some will wear jeans and t-shirts. We may even see shorts if the weather is warm enough. To answer your question, choose an outfit you already own, one you feel comfortable in, and join us. (No speedos please, but that’s just a personal request; otherwise, you’ll be fine.)

Where do I park?

We have six guest parking spots right in front, clearly marked. Just follow the signs you will see as you enter our property. We also have designated parking spots for senior adults and motorcycles along the front curb near the main entrance.

What will we do?

We will sing some songs, pray about something important, I’ll preach a sermon from God's Word (my intent is always to share truth, grace, and ultimately hope), and we will sing some more. We attempt to have a blend of songs and music in which all ages can participate. And, yes, in case you’re wondering, we will receive an offering. Our offerings support the full range of ministries and missions we offer in the church, community, and around the world. You are not required, however, to participate during this time unless you choose to do so.

Will you embarrass me?

I certainly hope not. It will be a primary goal not to do so. I don’t personally like to be embarrassed when I visit somewhere new, even in a church – and I’m a pastor. Our goal is to create an environment which is comfortable for all. You WILL NOT be singled out as a visitor. We don’t make visitors stand, raise their hand, or even fill out a card if you choose not to do so (but if you do fill out a card, take it to the Welcome Desk as we have a gift for you!).

How long will it last?

We try to start promptly at 10:45am and we are done by 12:05-12:10pm.

What time should I arrive?

What a great question! I’m really trying to help when I suggest you get here a few minutes early. Maybe even as many as 15 minutes early. It may take a moment to make your way through our building, especially if you have kids to check in to our kids' area or if this is your first time. We also want you to find a seat where you are most comfortable (some want up close, some want in the middle, some like me if I were visiting on the back row), and you’ll feel more acclimated to the room if you have a few minutes to adjust before the worship gathering begins.

Do you have something for kids?

Absolutely. Kids are one of the highest priorities in our church. Birth through pre-K have their own activities designed especially for them the entire time. K-3rd graders are in with us for a short portion of the worship gathering then they split out to enjoy a worship gathering which will engage them at their level. Of course, we don’t keep you from bringing kids with you in the worship gathering if this is more comfortable on a first visit, but our experience is they truly do enjoy the gatherings designed for them. Either way, we love when entire families gather with us. Check out more about our awesome kids' ministry here.

Do you have small groups for adults?

Yes. Most of them are at 9:30 on Sunday mornings but we also have a few meeting at other times, including Wednesday nights at 6:30 alongside some kids' programs. Virtually all of our adult groups are open to anyone. We try not to pigeon-hole you into an age or a stage of life, because we believe that growth happens while around those who are not just like us. Feel free to try a few groups before finding your fit! We won't mind; we just want you to be connected and growing. Check out a list of our groups here.

Can I only come one time? Really, what am I signing up for when I come this Sunday?

There’s no obligation beyond this Sunday. It’s a “free look”. Promise. Being honest, we do ask you to fill out a connect card or text some basic info to us and, if you do, we will follow up with you. And I hope you do. I love seeing who God brought as our guests and I love meeting new people. But we won’t put any unfair pressure on you to ever come again. Being totally transparent, we hope you will. We would love if this Sunday triggered a desire in you to be a part of our church family, but that’s totally your call - not ours. If you do become interested in joining our church, we host a membership class with lunch every 3 months. You can also talk to the person at the Welcome Desk or one of the people you see up on the stage for more info. We'd love to help you connect!
